Description

Here’s the thing most people don’t tell you about commuting on a folding bike: the gears are where the faff lives. You pull up at a junction in the wrong ratio, the lights change, and you’re grinding away trying to get going while the car behind you sighs. Or you hit the little rise near the office still in top gear and stall halfway up. It’s not hard, exactly – it’s just one more thing to think about on a Monday morning when you’d rather not. The ADO Air 20 Pro takes that job off your plate entirely, and for the 2026 model it does it with more muscle than before.

Bafang auto-shift – the gears sort themselves out

At the heart of the 2026 Air 20 Pro is a Bafang 2-speed auto-shift motor. It reads your speed and effort and changes gear for you – no levers, no trigger shifters, nothing to learn. You just pedal. On a stop-start city commute that’s genuinely liberating: pull away cleanly every time, and let the bike find the right ratio as you build speed. It’s rated at 250W and capped at 15.5 mph (25 km/h), which keeps it road-legal in the UK – no licence, tax or insurance needed. This year’s upgrade is torque: 50 Nm, up from 40 Nm, so there’s noticeably more shove from a standstill and a good deal less effort on hills. If your ride home involves anything resembling a slope, you’ll feel it.

Carbon belt drive – nothing to oil, nothing to mark your trousers

No chain means no oil, no grease, no rust and no black marks on your right ankle. The carbon belt drive runs silently, lasts for thousands of miles and needs virtually no maintenance – exactly what you want from a bike that lives in a hallway or gets wheeled into an office. Paired with a torque sensor that responds to how hard you’re actually pedalling, rather than just whether the pedals are turning, the power feels smooth and natural instead of a shove from behind.

Built for a British winter, and the clutter of real life

For 2026 the whole bike steps up to an IPX6 water-resistance rating (the display is IPX7), so a wet Tuesday commute isn’t something to dread. The removable 37V 10Ah battery – built to the EN50604 safety standard – lifts out to charge at your desk or by the front door, and gives up to 100 km of range depending on terrain, rider weight and how much you lean on Sport mode. There’s a new 2.4-inch IPS colour display with NFC, hydraulic disc brakes for confident stopping in the wet, and an adjustable lockout suspension fork that softens potholes but firms up for efficiency on smooth tarmac.

The MIK rack that makes the Air 20 Pro properly useful

This is the upgrade I think daily commuters will appreciate most. The 2026 Air 20 Pro comes with an aluminium rear rack using the MIK system and ADO’s AQS 2.0 quick-release – so you can clip a basket, a pannier, an insulated bag or a backpack straight on and off in seconds. No tools, no straps, no faff. It’s rated to a genuinely useful 25 kg. For anyone juggling a food shop, a nursery drop-off or an office-and-gym double run, that’s the difference between a bike that’s fun and a bike that earns its keep.

It’s worth being straight about weight: at a shade over 19 kg before the rack and mudguards, this isn’t the lightest folding e-bike we sell – the automatic hub and sturdier build cost you a little there. But it folds down to a compact 850 × 480 × 670 mm for the hallway, the boot or the train, and for most riders the trade is an easy one: a touch more to carry, in exchange for a bike that removes almost every bit of daily friction. If you want a clean, quiet, low-maintenance folding electric bike that simply gets on with the commute, the ADO Air 20 Pro is a very easy one to live with.

Key Features

Bafang 2-Speed Auto-Shift Motor – now 50 Nm – The gears change themselves based on your speed and effort: no shifters, no thinking, just pedal. For 2026 torque climbs to 50 Nm (up from 40 Nm), so there’s more pull away from the lights and less grind on hills. Rated 250W and limited to 15.5 mph, so it stays road-legal in the UK.

Carbon Belt Drive – Maintenance-Free – No chain means no oil, no rust and no mess on your clothes. It runs silently and lasts thousands of miles – ideal for a folding electric bike you store indoors or take into the office.

Torque-Sensor Pedal Assist – Eco & Sport – Power responds to how hard you pedal, not just that you’re pedalling, so it feels smooth and natural. Drop into Eco to stretch the range, or Sport for more urgency into a headwind or up a climb.

MIK Rack + ADO AQS 2.0 Quick-Release – Clip a basket, pannier or bag straight onto the aluminium rear rack in seconds – no tools, no straps. Rated to 25 kg, it turns the Air 20 Pro into a proper do-the-shopping commuter.

IPX6 Weatherproofing + Adjustable Lockout Fork – Rated IPX6 across the whole bike (IPX7 display), so British weather isn’t a problem. The adjustable lockout suspension fork softens potholes and rough tarmac, then locks out for efficiency on smooth roads.

Removable EN50604 Battery – Up to 100 km – The 37V 10Ah pack meets the EN50604 safety standard and lifts out to charge at home or your desk. Up to 100 km of range depending on terrain and mode – enough for most people’s week without a top-up.

Compact Folding Frame + New NFC Display – Folds to 850 × 480 × 670 mm for the hallway, boot or train, on a lightweight aluminium step-through frame that’s easy to live with for multi-modal commuting. The 2026 model adds a brighter 2.4-inch IPS colour display with NFC.

FAQs

What accessories come included with the Air 20 Pro and Air 20 Ultra?

Good news if you’ve been wondering about this — both the Air 20 Pro and Air 20 Ultra come with three accessories included straight out of the box: mudguards, a rear rack, and a water bottle. The mudguards and rear rack are two of the most common add-ons people ask about, so it’s worth knowing you won’t need to source them separately. Everything you need to get up and running from day one is already in the box.

Do the Air 20 Pro and Air 20 Ultra support installing a throttle?

They don’t, and that’s not an oversight — it’s by design. To keep both bikes fully road-legal here in the UK, throttle installation isn’t supported on either model. Ride them as intended and you’re compliant from day one, no modifications needed.

What are the differences between the Air 20 Pro|Ultra and the Air 20?

The standard Air 20 is a brilliant everyday folding e-bike — but the Pro and Ultra take things noticeably further, and it’s worth understanding where the money goes. Both upgraded models run a Bafang motor, which brings sharper efficiency and considerably better climbing ability than the standard version. The Pro uses Bafang’s built-in two-speed automatic shifting motor; the Ultra steps that up to a three-speed automatic. If your commute or weekend rides take in anything hilly or varied, that difference is one you’ll feel every time.

Beyond the motor, both the Pro and Ultra come with an automatic transmission that makes for a smoother, more relaxed ride — particularly useful in stop-start city traffic where you’d otherwise be fiddling with gears at every junction. A lockable suspension fork lets you dial the ride in depending on whether you’re on smooth tarmac or something a bit less forgiving, and aluminium mudguards keep things dry and protected in the kind of weather we all know too well. These aren’t just spec sheet additions — each one makes a real difference to daily use.

How to choose between the Air 20 Pro and Air 20 Ultra?

I’d put it this way: if you’re mainly commuting — city streets, bike lanes, the occasional hill — the Pro is the sweet spot. It’s 21kg, runs a Bafang dual-speed motor, and handles the vast majority of everyday riding conditions with ease. It’s very good value for what it delivers.

If you want to push it further — more varied terrain, steeper climbs, a more refined ride overall — the Ultra is worth the extra. It’s a kilogram heavier at 22kg, steps up to a Bafang tri-speed motor for noticeably stronger performance, and upgrades to a hydraulically adjustable suspension fork which gives you far more control over how the bike handles depending on what’s under your wheels. If you want the best the Air 20 range has to offer, the Ultra is it.

Electric Bike UK Laws

There are a few regulations surrounding electric bikes in the UK so we thought we would provide you with a summary of those below:

You must be aged 14 or over in the UK to ride an electric bike.

You do not need tax, insurance or a driving license to ride an electric bike.

To be classified as an electrically assisted pedal cycle (EAPC) in the UK, an electric bike must fulfil a certain set of criteria, including:

  • Pedals - The electric bike must have pedals capable of propelling it, and motor assistance should only be provided when the pedals are moving.
  • Motor - The motor’s power output must be no more than 250 watts (W).
  • Speed - The motor should not be able to propel the e-bike when it’s travelling faster than 15.5mph.

Please note that if your electric bike does not meet the above 3 points, then you cannot ride on public roads. Some of our bikes exceed the 250W limit, so these are only to be used on private land with the landowner's permission.

It is the responsibility of the rider to wear protective clothing, however this is not a legal requirement.
