Here's the thing about electric mountain bikes — a lot of them promise more than they deliver. Either the motor is underpowered for anything steeper than a gentle slope, the battery runs out before you're halfway through a proper trail, or the bike is so heavy that any off-road agility has been engineered right out of it. The Dallingridge Coniston takes a more honest approach: a well-specified hardtail electric mountain bike that's genuinely capable off-road without overcomplicating things.
At its core is a 250W 36V rear hub motor working alongside a 14Ah frame-integrated battery — housed inside the down tube where it keeps the weight central and low, which matters far more on a mountain bike than on a commuter. On a full charge you're looking at 35–50 miles of assisted range, which is enough for a proper day out on varied terrain without rationing power levels.
The 27.5" alloy wheels hit a useful middle ground — larger than 26" for better roll-over on roots and rocks, but more nimble and responsive than 29" wheels on tighter, more technical terrain. CST All-Terrain tyres provide confident grip on a genuine range of surfaces, from hard-packed trail to looser gravel and muddy sections. These are tyres chosen with actual off-road use in mind, not just aesthetics.
The Suntour suspension fork handles trail-level chatter and the sharper impacts that come with proper off-road riding. Stable MTB handlebars put you in the right position for technical riding — more width, more control, better leverage when the surface demands it. The alloy crossbar frame is built with a slightly lower top tube than a traditional mountain frame, which improves accessibility and keeps more of the weight towards the rear — a subtle but effective design decision for handling.
Reliable mechanical disc brakes front and rear complete the picture. On a descent, in mud, on wet roots — they stop you when you need stopping, without the fade that rim brakes suffer in those conditions. The user-friendly LCD display makes switching between power levels straightforward even with gloves on.
Truth be told, if you want a capable electric mountain bike UK buyers can get into at this price point — one that's genuinely built for off-road use and not just dressed up to look like it — the Coniston is a serious contender worth putting on the shortlist.
250W 36V Rear Hub Motor — Smooth, EAPC-compliant pedal assistance designed to handle trail gradients and steeper off-road climbs. Power delivery is consistent rather than sudden, which makes technical terrain more manageable. No licence, tax, or insurance required under UK EAPC regulations.
14Ah 36V Frame-Integrated Battery — Built into the down tube for low, central weight distribution — a meaningful advantage off-road where weight placement affects handling. Up to 50 miles of assisted range, with 4-6 hour charge time.
27.5" Alloy Wheels — A well-chosen size for trail riding: better obstacle roll-over than 26", more nimble handling than 29". The aerodynamic profile also supports quicker acceleration recovery after technical sections.
CST All-Terrain Tyres — Purpose-designed for mixed-surface riding. Provide confident traction and stability across hard-packed trail, gravel, loose ground, and wet conditions. A genuine off-road tyre choice rather than a cosmetic one.
Suntour Suspension Fork — Absorbs trail-level impacts including roots, rocks, and rougher surface irregularities. Keeps the front wheel tracking rather than bouncing, which improves control and reduces rider fatigue on longer trail sessions.
Stable MTB Handlebars — Wider bar positioning gives better leverage and control on technical terrain. Combined with the frame geometry, they put you in the right body position for confident off-road riding.
Mechanical Disc Brakes (Front & Rear) — Reliable, consistent stopping power in all conditions. Performance doesn't degrade in mud, wet, or on longer descents in the way rim brakes can. An essential specification for genuine off-road use.
7-Speed Gearing — An extra gear over the hybrid models in the Dallingridge range, giving more flexibility across steeper and more varied terrain. Useful on climbs where the motor assistance alone doesn't fully compensate for gradient.
LCD Display with Multiple Power Levels — Readable and operable with gloves on. Switch between assist levels on the move to manage battery range or adjust to changing terrain without stopping.
Ergonomic Alloy Crossbar Frame (19") — Slightly lower top tube than a traditional mountain frame for wider rider accessibility. Weight distribution is biased towards the rear, improving the bike's natural handling balance on trail.

There are a few regulations surrounding electric bikes in the UK so we thought we would provide you with a summary of those below:
You must be aged 14 or over in the UK to ride an electric bike.
You do not need tax, insurance or a driving license to ride an electric bike.
To be classified as an electrically assisted pedal cycle (EAPC) in the UK, an electric bike must fulfil a certain set of criteria, including:
- Pedals - The electric bike must have pedals capable of propelling it, and motor assistance should only be provided when the pedals are moving.
- Motor - The motor’s power output must be no more than 250 watts (W).
- Speed - The motor should not be able to propel the e-bike when it’s travelling faster than 15.5mph.
Please note that if your electric bike does not meet the above 3 points, then you cannot ride on public roads. Some of our bikes exceed the 250W limit, so these are only to be used on private land with the landowner's permission.
It is the responsibility of the rider to wear protective clothing, however this is not a legal requirement.
