Description

There's a reason the ENGWE EP-2 Boost has become one of our most popular folding fat tyre bikes. It's not the flashiest model in the range, and it doesn't pretend to be. What it is, is genuinely capable — the kind of folding fat tyre electric bike that earns its keep on a wet Wednesday morning just as much as a sunny weekend ride through the Cotswolds.

Those 20×4" fat tyres with front suspension do the heavy lifting when UK roads stop cooperating. Canal towpaths, gravel cut-throughs, the potholed stretch near the station — the EP-2 Boost absorbs it rather than transmitting it. And at 55 Nm of torque from a torque-assisted 250W motor, hills stop being something you think twice about.

Foldable convenience that actually works in practice

The folding frame collapses to 99×55×75 cm — compact enough for a hallway, a car boot, or beside a desk at work. The removable 48V 13Ah battery charges at home or the office, giving you up to 120 km in PAS 1 mode. For most commuters, that's the best part of a week's riding between charges.

Built for real-world UK riding

I've taken mine through some properly muddy bridleways and it just eats up the terrain. But this is also a bike that handles the Monday morning commute without drama — smooth power delivery, Shimano 7-speed gearing, and 180mm disc brakes that give you confident stopping whatever the weather. British roads being what they are, that last point matters more than people realise until they need it.

If you want a folding electric bike that handles mixed terrain, stores practically, and doesn't demand a significant financial leap — the EP-2 Boost is a very easy bike to recommend.

Key Features

250W Torque-Assist Motor — 55 Nm — Smooth, proportional power on hills and from junctions. No jerky cadence-sensor surges — just natural, confidence-inspiring assist that responds to your effort.

20×4" Fat Tyres + Front Suspension — Grip and cushioning across tarmac, gravel, canal towpaths, and mixed UK terrain. The fat tyre and suspension combination makes a noticeable difference on the kind of uneven surfaces that rattle a standard commuter bike.

Removable 48V 13Ah Battery — Up to 120 km — Charge at home or at work. Strong real-world range means most commuters won't need to think about charging more than once or twice a week.

Foldable Frame — 99×55×75 cm folded — Stores neatly in hallways, car boots, and office corners. Compact enough for flat living, sturdy enough for daily use.

180mm Mechanical Disc Brakes — Reliable, consistent stopping in all conditions. The kind of brakes that matter when you're descending a wet slope or braking hard at a junction.

Shimano 7-Speed Gearing — Smooth, reliable shifting for varied terrain. Lets you find the right cadence for everything from flat cycle paths to steeper inclines.

Electric Bike UK Laws

There are a few regulations surrounding electric bikes in the UK so we thought we would provide you with a summary of those below:

You must be aged 14 or over in the UK to ride an electric bike.

You do not need tax, insurance or a driving license to ride an electric bike.

To be classified as an electrically assisted pedal cycle (EAPC) in the UK, an electric bike must fulfil a certain set of criteria, including:

  • Pedals - The electric bike must have pedals capable of propelling it, and motor assistance should only be provided when the pedals are moving.
  • Motor - The motor’s power output must be no more than 250 watts (W).
  • Speed - The motor should not be able to propel the e-bike when it’s travelling faster than 15.5mph.

Please note that if your electric bike does not meet the above 3 points, then you cannot ride on public roads. Some of our bikes exceed the 250W limit, so these are only to be used on private land with the landowner's permission.

It is the responsibility of the rider to wear protective clothing, however this is not a legal requirement.
