To tell you the truth, a lot of folding electric bikes ask you to make too many trade-offs — they fold small but ride poorly, or they're light but underpowered. The Dawes Arc has had a proper rethink. This updated version has nearly doubled its range while keeping the quick, simple fold that's made it such a practical commuting partner. That's a combination worth paying attention to.
The fold itself takes less than 15 seconds across three straightforward steps — no tools, no fiddling, no cursing on a busy platform. Once folded, the alloy frame keeps the weight manageable for carrying it off the train or up to the office. It suits riders from 5'0" to 6'2", so it's one of the more versatile folding electric bikes on the market in terms of fit.
Power comes from a Bafang rear hub motor delivering 32Nm of torque — more than enough to take the sting out of hills and let you cruise into work without breaking a sweat. The 378Wh integrated battery provides up to 40 miles (64km) of real-world range and charges in five hours. There's also a USB port built in, which sounds like a small thing until your phone is on 4% and your destination is still three miles away.
The 20" wheels give a comfortable, stable ride that belies the bike's compact size — genuinely, they absorb more than you'd expect for a folder. Shimano Altus/Tourney 1x7 gearing with a trigger shifter keeps things smooth, and the mechanical disc brakes give you reliable stopping in any weather. Full-length mudguards, a kickstand and a pannier rack are all included — because a commuter bike without mudguards is only half a commuter bike.
Folds in Under 15 Seconds — 3 Simple Steps — Genuinely quick and genuinely simple. The alloy folding frame is compact enough for hallways, car boots and under-desk storage, without requiring a tutorial every time you need to pack it away.
Bafang Rear Hub Motor — 32Nm Torque — Trusted, smooth assist with enough grunt to handle inclines and headwinds without the motor feeling strained. Five assist levels let you manage range versus effort depending on the day.
378Wh Integrated Battery — Up to 40 Miles Range — Nearly doubled range compared to its predecessor. Charges fully in five hours and stays neatly integrated into the frame so the bike looks clean and balanced when folded or unfolded.
Built-In USB Port — Charge your phone or headphones while you ride. A small feature that makes a real difference on longer commutes or days when you've forgotten to top up overnight.
20" Wheels — Stable and Comfortable — Larger than typical compact folding wheels, these give a noticeably more planted, smooth ride. Wanda P1472 tyres at 20x2.40" add width and comfort over varied surfaces.
Shimano Altus/Tourney 1x7 Gearing — Trigger Shifter — Easy gear changes across a useful seven-speed range. Low-maintenance and well-suited to the flat-to-moderate terrain that most UK urban commuters encounter.
Pannier Rack + Full-Length Mudguards + Bell — Everything you need for practical daily use, included as standard. Carry bags, stay dry, and let pedestrians know you're coming. Accessories that should never be an afterthought on a commuter bike.

There are a few regulations surrounding electric bikes in the UK so we thought we would provide you with a summary of those below:
You must be aged 14 or over in the UK to ride an electric bike.
You do not need tax, insurance or a driving license to ride an electric bike.
To be classified as an electrically assisted pedal cycle (EAPC) in the UK, an electric bike must fulfil a certain set of criteria, including:
- Pedals - The electric bike must have pedals capable of propelling it, and motor assistance should only be provided when the pedals are moving.
- Motor - The motor’s power output must be no more than 250 watts (W).
- Speed - The motor should not be able to propel the e-bike when it’s travelling faster than 15.5mph.
Please note that if your electric bike does not meet the above 3 points, then you cannot ride on public roads. Some of our bikes exceed the 250W limit, so these are only to be used on private land with the landowner's permission.
It is the responsibility of the rider to wear protective clothing, however this is not a legal requirement.
