Description

I’ll be honest with you — most folding bikes look the part in the shop and then spend their life in a hallway gathering dust. Too heavy to carry comfortably. Too fiddly to fold quickly. Too noisy to use without announcing yourself to everyone in the building. The ADO Air 20 is different, and the reason comes down to a few carefully chosen decisions that matter enormously in day-to-day use.

At just 18 kg, it’s genuinely manageable — light enough to carry upstairs to a flat, lift into a car boot, or wheel through a train carriage without asking anyone to shift. The step-through folding frame makes getting on and off simple, whether you’re in work clothes, cycling gear, or a coat on a damp Tuesday morning. This is a folding electric bike designed around how people actually live, not how they ride in ideal conditions.

Silence and smoothness — the belt drive difference

The carbon belt drive is the detail that surprises most people. No chain means no grease, no oily marks on your trousers, no maintenance routine to keep on top of. It runs silently, stays clean, and there’s genuinely very little to go wrong. For anyone who stores their bike indoors, takes it into an office, or hates the idea of getting their hands dirty — this alone is worth choosing the Air 20 for.

Assist that responds like a natural extension of your legs

The torque-sensor motor reads how hard you’re pedalling and responds proportionally. No jolt from a standing start. No sudden surge on a gentle slope. Just smooth, natural support that makes city riding feel easy without removing the sense that you’re actually cycling. Hills become less of a negotiation. Headwinds stop being an event. British roads being what they are, that matters more than people expect.

A week’s commuting on a single charge

The Samsung 36V 9.6Ah battery offers up to 100 km of range — enough for most riders to get through a full week without needing to charge at work. The battery is removable, so you can charge it at home or the office without wheeling the bike to a socket. Hydraulic disc brakes provide confident stopping in all weathers. Puncture-resistant tyres reduce the kind of interruption you really don’t need on a Monday morning.

If you’re looking for a lightweight folding e-bike that earns its keep every single day — clean, quiet, and genuinely easy to live with — the Air 20 is a very good place to start.

Key Features

Carbon Belt Drive — No chain, no grease, no maintenance schedule. Runs silently and stays clean — a genuine daily-life upgrade for anyone who stores their bike indoors or commutes in work clothes. Designed to last thousands of miles without attention.

Torque Sensor Pedal Assist — Responds proportionally to your effort, not just whether you’re pedalling. The result is smooth, natural-feeling power on city streets, hills and cycle paths — far more intuitive than cheaper cadence-sensor systems.

Lightweight Folding Step-Through Frame — 18 kg — Manageable for stairs, car boots and train carriages. The step-through design makes mounting easy in everyday clothing. Folds for flat, office and public transport storage.

Up to 100 km Range — Samsung 36V 9.6Ah Battery — Removable for convenient charging at home or work. Enough range for most commuters to cover a full week between charges.

Hydraulic Disc Brakes — Confident, consistent stopping performance in rain, on wet leaves, and in the stop-start conditions that define British city riding.

FAQs

What are the differences between the Air 20 and Air 20S?

The short answer is one meaningful upgrade: the Air 20S comes with a hydraulic lockout adjustable fork, giving you proper suspension that you can dial in depending on the terrain. The standard Air 20 runs without suspension. Everything else — motor, battery, drivetrain, weight — is identical between the two. So if your riding is mostly smooth tarmac, the Air 20 does everything you need. If you want a more comfortable, controlled ride over rougher surfaces or potholed roads, the Air 20S is the one to go for.

Is it possible to change speed? Is it weatherproof?

The Air 20 runs a single gear, so there’s no manual shifting involved — but that doesn’t mean the ride is one-dimensional. You have three levels of pedal assist to choose from, and the smart torque sensor reads how hard you’re pedalling and responds instantly, adjusting the power to match the terrain beneath you. That means even if you set off on a hill or hit an incline mid-ride, the assist kicks in immediately without you having to think about it. It’s a more intuitive system than it might sound on paper.

As for the weather — yes, you’re well covered. The Air 20 is rated IPX5 waterproof, the IPS display steps that up to IPX7, and all the electronic components are fully sealed against heavy rain and dust. A wet British commute isn’t going to cause you any problems.

Electric Bike UK Laws

There are a few regulations surrounding electric bikes in the UK so we thought we would provide you with a summary of those below:

You must be aged 14 or over in the UK to ride an electric bike.

You do not need tax, insurance or a driving license to ride an electric bike.

To be classified as an electrically assisted pedal cycle (EAPC) in the UK, an electric bike must fulfil a certain set of criteria, including:

  • Pedals - The electric bike must have pedals capable of propelling it, and motor assistance should only be provided when the pedals are moving.
  • Motor - The motor’s power output must be no more than 250 watts (W).
  • Speed - The motor should not be able to propel the e-bike when it’s travelling faster than 15.5mph.

Please note that if your electric bike does not meet the above 3 points, then you cannot ride on public roads. Some of our bikes exceed the 250W limit, so these are only to be used on private land with the landowner's permission.

It is the responsibility of the rider to wear protective clothing, however this is not a legal requirement.

What people like

This folding electric bike is highly regarded for its lightweight and portable design, making it an excellent choice for urban commuters and multi-modal travel. Reviewers consistently praise its low-maintenance carbon belt drive, smooth and responsive power delivery thanks to a torque sensor, and effective hydraulic disc brakes. Its solid build quality, easy folding mechanism, and overall practicality at an affordable price point are also frequently highlighted. While generally comfortable for city riding, its ride quality on rougher terrain can be firm due to the lack of suspension in some models, and some users note a potentially lower real-world battery range compared to claims.

Pros

  • Lightweight, Portable: The bike is noted for being lightweight (around 18kg) and easy to carry, often featuring an integrated handle for balanced lifting.
  • Easy Folding: Reviewers consistently mention the quick, simple, and compact folding mechanism, making it ideal for storage and multi-modal commuting.
  • Low Maintenance: The carbon belt drive is a significant highlight, praised for being quiet, grease-free, durable, and requiring minimal maintenance.

  • Strong Brakes: Hydraulic disc brakes are consistently praised for providing strong, consistent stopping power with excellent modulation in various conditions.
  • Solid Build: Despite being a folding bike, it is described as robust, well-built, and feeling solid with no excessive flex or creaking.
