Description

The EP-2 3.0 Boost is what happens when you take a bike that was already working well and quietly improve the parts that matter most. Compared to the standard EP-2 Boost, it brings hydraulic disc brakes, a faster charger, a larger 13.5Ah battery, and a bump in torque to 75 Nm — all wrapped in the same folding fat tyre package that's made the EP-2 range one of our most consistent sellers.

The result is a folding fat tyre electric bike that feels more refined in day-to-day use. The hydraulic brakes give you noticeably better stopping confidence in wet conditions — something you'll appreciate on the first damp morning of autumn, when canal towpath surfaces get slippery and the difference between mechanical and hydraulic braking becomes very real. The faster 4A charger means a full charge in around 3.5–4 hours rather than 6.5 — genuinely useful if you're getting home late and need the bike ready for the morning.

75 Nm torque — the upgrade you notice on hills

At 75 Nm, the motor delivers 36% more torque than the standard EP-2 Boost. On flat ground, the difference is subtle. On a long incline with a loaded rack, or grinding up a canal path gradient in headwind, it becomes clear why it matters. Combined with the torque-sensor assist, the power delivery stays smooth and proportional throughout.

All-terrain capability without sacrificing city practicality

The 20×4" fat tyres with 3mm anti-puncture layer and hydraulic front suspension handle mixed UK terrain without complaint — tarmac, gravel, grass, coastal paths. The step-through folding frame collapses to 97×53×81 cm for hallways, car boots, and offices. The ENGWE app connects via the Bluetooth colour LCD for ride data and basic settings.

If you want the EP-2 platform with meaningful upgrades to braking, charging, and hill-climbing power — the 3.0 Boost is where the range gets genuinely serious.

Key Features

75 Nm Torque Hub Motor with Torque Sensor — Significantly more pulling power than the standard EP-2 Boost. Noticeably better on hills, inclines, and loaded riding. The torque sensor keeps power delivery smooth and proportional throughout.

Hydraulic Dual-Piston Disc Brakes — 180mm — A meaningful upgrade over mechanical discs in wet conditions. Consistent, reliable stopping power on damp canal paths, autumn leaves, and slippery urban surfaces.

48V 13.5Ah Battery — Up to 120 km — Slightly larger capacity than the standard EP-2 Boost, with 21700 cells and BMS protection. Charged in 3.5–4 hours via the included 4A fast charger — a practical advantage for commuters who need the bike ready quickly.

20×4" Fat Tyres with 3mm Anti-Puncture Layer — Grip and cushioning on mixed UK terrain, plus built-in puncture resistance that makes a noticeable difference to long-term reliability.

Step-Through Folding Frame — 97×53×81 cm folded — TÜV CE EN15194 certified. Folds neatly for hallway storage, car boots, and multi-modal commuting. Step-through design works in everyday clothing.

3.5" Colour LCD with Bluetooth + ENGWE App — Clear, mid-mounted display with app connectivity for ride tracking, settings, and diagnostics. A noticeably more informative setup than a basic LCD.

Electric Bike UK Laws

There are a few regulations surrounding electric bikes in the UK so we thought we would provide you with a summary of those below:

You must be aged 14 or over in the UK to ride an electric bike.

You do not need tax, insurance or a driving license to ride an electric bike.

To be classified as an electrically assisted pedal cycle (EAPC) in the UK, an electric bike must fulfil a certain set of criteria, including:

  • Pedals - The electric bike must have pedals capable of propelling it, and motor assistance should only be provided when the pedals are moving.
  • Motor - The motor’s power output must be no more than 250 watts (W).
  • Speed - The motor should not be able to propel the e-bike when it’s travelling faster than 15.5mph.

Please note that if your electric bike does not meet the above 3 points, then you cannot ride on public roads. Some of our bikes exceed the 250W limit, so these are only to be used on private land with the landowner's permission.

It is the responsibility of the rider to wear protective clothing, however this is not a legal requirement.

What people like

The electric bike is generally well-regarded as a good value for money, particularly when compared to more expensive alternatives. It features a 250W motor for legal compliance in the UK and EU, complemented by a "boost" button that provides additional torque for tackling inclines. Reviewers consistently praise its robust design, which includes a magnesium frame, comfortable fat tires, and effective suspension, contributing to a smooth ride. The hydraulic brakes are also a frequently appreciated feature. Its folding capability is highlighted as a practical advantage for portability and storage. However, some users note that the legal speed restriction can make the ride feel limited, and the bike's weight can make pedaling without electric assistance challenging.

  • Good Value: Often highlighted as an excellent bargain compared to higher-priced models.
  • Boost Button: Provides extra torque, particularly beneficial for hill climbs.
  • Legal Compliance: The 250W motor adheres to UK and EU regulations, offering peace of mind.
  • Robust Design: Features a magnesium frame, noted for being stronger and more effective at absorbing vibrations than aluminum.
  • Comfortable Ride: Enhanced by a plush seat with suspension, front hydraulic suspension, and wide fat tires.
  • Hydraulic Brakes: Front and back hydraulic brakes offer reliable stopping power.
  • Folding Mechanism: Easy to fold, making it convenient for storage and transportation in vehicles.
  • Responsive Torque: The torque sensor is highly responsive, aiding in smooth and quick acceleration.
  • Accessible Battery: Features good battery life (up to 120km range) and a conveniently placed external battery for easy removal and charging.
